Xochitl Torres Small

Growing up in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Xochitl Torres Small learned the values of hard work and grit. Her support of small businesses, hardworking families and protecting land are a few reasons we are proud to support her re-election as New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District representative.

Small Business Administration is a top priority for Xochitl. In July, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Xochitl led a bipartisan effort calling on the U.S. Treasury and the Small Business Administration (SBA) to ensure full access to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) by allowing small businesses the opportunity and flexibility to seek loan increases if eligible. This follows Xochitl’s continued efforts to improve SBA relief programs for New Mexico’s small businesses, in which she led bipartisan calls to give small businesses more flexibility to spend PPP funds, which resulted in SBA ultimately revising initial guidelines. Xochitl also worked with New Mexico’s agriculture industry and the SBA to ensure PPP and EIDL eligibility includes farmers and producers.

The protection of public land is another top issue for Xochitl. Her commitment to its protection led her to introducing the Great American Outdoors Act, which strives to protect public lands in both New Mexico and nationwide.

Xochitl is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and is vice chair of its Tactical Air & Land Forces Subcommittee, and the Homeland Security Committee, where she serves as chair of the Oversight, Management and Accountability Subcommittee. She is also a member of 14 caucuses, covering everything from the Army and Air Force to energy and LGBT equality.
