Washington, DC – We are heartbroken by the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson, a leader who changed America and transformed the idea of what is possible in our politics.

Through Operation PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition, Reverend Jackson expanded democracy in ways that reshaped the nation and continue to inspire the work we carry forward today. He built multiracial, multigenerational coalitions rooted in working people and insisted that politics must belong to all people, not just the powerful. He did not simply run for office. He redefined who could see themselves in it and what they could demand from it.

Andrea Pringle, President of March On PAC, who worked for Reverend Jackson and credits him with shaping her political life, said, “Reverend Jackson changed this country. He changed what we believed was possible. He showed us that politics could be expansive, inclusive, and grounded in dignity for all people. Working with him shaped my life and my understanding of leadership. He believed that democracy should work for everyone, and he demanded that we organize until it did. His vision lives on in every coalition we build and every barrier we refuse to accept.”

We extend our deepest condolences to the Jackson family and to the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. His leadership seeded movements, opened doors, and expanded the moral horizon of this country.

Rest in power, Reverend Jesse Jackson.
