MARCH ON PAC ENDORSES DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE MJ HEGAR IN BATTLEGROUND STATE OF TEXAS TO UNSEAT THREE-TERM REPUBLICAN U.S. SENATOR JOHN CORNYN WHO FAILS TO LEAD

Hegar Endorsed for Her Support of Healthcare, Criminal Justice Reform, Voting Rights, Climate Action, Pro-Choice Protections and Other Critical Progressive Issues

WASHINGTON, D.C.—March On PAC today announced its endorsement of Democrat MJ Hegar for Senate to represent Texas, aiming to flip the seat in November. The political action committee created by March On continues to endorse candidates who support efforts to Take Back the Senate, Hold the House and Reclaim the Presidency this November. Hegar is a retired military officer with deep experience in mission planning. MJ Hegar will give Texas a leader who can rally allies and press for legislation that addresses the needs of all Texans. Hegar is a mother and a combat veteran, who prides herself on representing Texas values of strength, courage, independence and putting families first.

Hegar sees the politicization of healthcare as dangerous for American lives, and she is fighting for the belief in science, particularly amid the COVID-19 pandemic. With 1 out of 5 Texans lacking access to healthcare before the pandemic, this is the number-one issue for Hegar. She has vowed to fight for Texas to have a public option which will include access to Medicare and even to TRICARE, a form of military Medicare.

MJ’s stance on additional issues include:

  • The need for an extension of the Payroll Support Program funded by the CARES Act, which is set to expire in the fall.
  • Fighting for gender equality in the ranks, taking on Sen. Mitch McConnell in successfully advocating for overturning military policies that held hundreds of thousands of women back from service.
  • Passing common-sense gun safety legislation to require background checks on every gun sale, including closing the gun show loophole

Endorsement of Hegar, along with six additional recently endorsed candidates (Mike Kelly, D–Arizona; Theresa Greenfield, D–Iowa; Mike Espy, D–Mississippi; Steven Bullock, D–Montana; Cal Cunningham, D–North Carolina; and Jaime Harrison, D–South Carolina) would flip seats in traditionally red states, help Democrats take back the Senate and represent strong voices in support of police reform, criminal justice reform, voting rights, economic justice, healthcare reform, climate change legislation, gun violence prevention, pro-choice protections and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
